Picked it up today and drove it about 160km home. Its a Mazda MX-6 with the 2.5L KL-DE engine, cruise control, sunroof, climate control etc. Brand new they were over $55,000 brand new and i picked this one up with a slight water leak from the overflow for just $1500. Does anyone want to know anything more? Ask away!

Congrats! Pretty rough but I’d say it was a nice price!
What are your plans for it?

What interesting things have you found that belonged to the previous owner(s)?

They lived in an area that was closed for the V8 Supercars Street Race in our country as evidenced by the resident passes in the glovebox, they tried to DIY some wooden speaker adapter plates (weird Mazda 6x9 spacing to standard 6x9 spacing) which I immediately ripped out and just drilled new holes, and they haven’t changed the spark plugs in 5 years.

My best high school friend and car buddy had one and we loved it, it was a great sporty car. It definitely had better looks, response and road handling chops than your average Honda in ‘03 so looking back we were mighty fortunate. Get good tires and maybe other tuning basics and have a blast on track day bro.
He had to pay extra for those sweet euro market headlights tho.
Please just don’t paint it flat black and add a hood scoop. I had nothing to do with those choices. I send him pics of them racing to try to get him to buy another so we can gut it (again) and track it.

My wife had this same car-even the same red with flaking clear coat. The only problem I had with the car was it ate distributors. About one every year or two. The ignition module would burn out-I suspect from the heat of being bolted to the end of the camshaft. And it wasn’t available seperately-you needed a whole distributor. I finally found a forum post where you can replace it with a cheap Chevy HEI module.
If you car won’t start-and the tach needle isn’t moving-or if it starts but won’t rev up, you have the problem.

Did yours slide into a curb at one point or did these come with a four-wheel-steering option?

what's up with the back wheels being turned? do these have 4WS?

Yup, under 35kmh they turn against the fronts, over that they turn with the fronts up to a maximum of 5 degrees. The end result is a car that turns tighter than most supermini town cars but is incredibly stable at speed.

Thanks! I found another MX6 in a junkyard that me and my mate have already taken the intake manifold and cams out of (its a JDM KLZE motor) and I need to go back to get the overflow tank and the wide angle JDM wing mirrors so I might grab the dizzy as a spare.

haha of course, no flat black or scoops. Funnily enough me and my mate are considering pilfering a JDM model we found at a junkyard for its headlights and wing mirrors. (the E-Spec mirrors are magnified whereas the J-spec are wide angle).
